A pulmonary function test, (or PFT) is a non-invasive diagnostic test that provides measurable feedback about the function of the lungs. By assessing lung volumes, capacities, as well as rates of flow and gas exchange; PFTs provide information that can help diagnosis certain lung disorders when evaluated by your doctor.
Testing listed below can offer a unique perspective on lung and respiratory health. Referring physicians can use the combination of these tests to get a clearer picture of lung function, diagnosis and treatment needs.
- Pulmonary Function Testing: Includes spirometry (pre and post bronchodilator),lung volumes (plethysmography), and DLCO (diffusion lung carbon monoxide)
- Methacholine Challenge Testing: This test measures the degree of airway hyperresponsiveness, which is typically seen in asthma
- Arterial Blood Gas (ABG): ABG tests measure the levels of oxygen (O2), carbon dioxide (CO2) and pH in the blood to assess how well the lungs are transferring oxygen to the blood and removing carbon dioxide

Yes, in order to see a specialist at Peak Medical Group, you will need to speak to your family physician and have them write a referral letter.
Yes all specialist consultations and services are covered by Alberta Health Care, with exception of Podiatry consultations, initial consults, follow up visits and procedures are billed directly to the patient at the time of the visit in accordance with the standard Podiatry fee codes. If you have third party insurance most visits are covered, if you are unsure please check with your insurance provider.
Consultations with our Allergist are covered by Albertha Health Care with exception of the allergy skin testing tray fees, this is not covered by AHC and is billed to the patient at the time of their visit, the receipt can be submitted to your third party insurance and if covered by your plan may be reimbursed.
